As a university strategically located in the Asia Pacific region, Ritsumeikan University is developing its activities in the international arena. With the goal of “developing human resources for international community”, Ritsumeikan University has prioritised the drive to internationalisation since the1980s, becoming one of the first universities in Japan to establish a college of international relations. Through a global network comprising more than 403 universities and institutions in 61countries and regions, Ritsumeikan University has led the times by offering forward-looking initiatives, including the development of diverse international programmes in response to students’ growing interest in the ongoing moves toward internationalisation.
Following selection by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in 2009 for the “Project for Establishing Core Universities for Internationalisation (Global 30)”, Ritsumeikan University is planning to expand the scope of its international student support programmes as well as study abroad programmes for local students in an effort to further internationalise its University-level education.
Ritsumeikan University has now become one of the largest and high-profile private universities in Japan accommodating about 36,000 students in 13 colleges and 19 graduate schools. Its main campus is inKyoto, the ancient capital city of Japan, a centre of learning, culture, and the arts.
